What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of focus that allows you to access your own subconscious mind and inner wisdom. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis; a Hypnotherapist is simply your support and facilitator. When you enter a state of hypnosis, your subconscious mind becomes highly suggestible, allowing powerful changes to occur as you release old ways of thinking and behaving. The more you connect with your subconscious mind, the more you will be able to reprogram thought patterns to create the desired outcomes you want to see in your life.

The Myths

  • Hypnosis causes people to lose control and reveal secrets.

Therapeutic hypnosis is a state of relaxation, but it cannot detach the ego. You are still in control at all times. Beliefs and values stay intact during any act that involves hypnosis.

  • Can a person's memory be erased?

No. If a person wants to remember what happened under hypnosis or have memories from the past, he or she will.

  •  Weak-minded or unintelligent people make better subjects.

The opposite is true. The more strong-willed a person is, and the higher their IQ, the better the results. This is because these two groups have greater concentration.  Sustained focus creates a higher degree of success because concentration is a key factor to being able to imagine suggestions.

  • I don’t think that I can be hypnotized?

Anyone with normal physiological and psychological functioning can be hypnotized. The most important criteria is the ability to concentrate and relax.  As long as the client is willing, he or she may undergo hypnosis.

  • Do people under hypnosis go to sleep or become unconscious?

No. You should not expect to go to sleep. Hypnosis is a state of hyper awareness that feels very relaxing. Hypnosis is a state of consciousness located somewhere between awake and asleep.  Some fatigued people may go out of hypnosis by falling into natural sleep simply because they are tired and the body needs rest. They still benefit from the suggestions because sleep is considered a learning state.
